Prostanthera Magnifica

I recently finished a digital drawing that started off as a traditional ink pen drawing. It’s a lot more simplified but it turned out to be the winner.

The subject is the prostanthera magnifica plant. It’s endemic to Western Australia, it’s flowers are two shades of soft purple, really beautiful.

The original drawing (pen, ink and collage) was a full watercolour sheet which was taking such a long time to finish. I wasn’t too happy with the composition either, so it was ultimately scrapped. Such a pity for a project that had a lot of time invested in it!

Here is the subject, original drawing and then the much quicker procreate drawing.

A lot of dots but really wrong lay out. I should know better than to wing it on a piece this big! 😂 Oh well. Lesson learnt!
