This has taken a really long time to draw, to stipple, possibly the longest I’ve ever spent on one piece. Every time I would come to sit in front of it I’d have to switch off the normal-life mind and slip back into art mind. I could slow down and step into my little world where written text and moody wash and dark ink could swim around with each other and create a new story.

Unfortunately it is difficult to photograph well. Depending on the light source it can really change between golden browns to more ashy browns in direct light. The background wash was a combination of watercolour, sepia ink and walnut ink. It seems as though the three are battling it out for who gets top billing. The collage parts are also quite reflective, they have a wash of walnut ink only.

I’ve put this piece on my shop originals page, just scroll down to the last listing if you’re interested in it.

Here’s some pics and a video 👇

in brighter daylight
taken in the afternoon light
very zoomed in, but again it looks like a different shade.
under the warm light of my desk lamp. no filters! such a difference again!
